Known Innates

Innate abilities are magics bestowed by the soul, often shaped by bloodline. The emergence of outliers is not uncommon (e.g., non-traditional innates), depending on the linages involved and the strength of the soul. Several less common innates are not tolerated by society at large with a couple resulting in death of the wielder if discovered.

Fae tend to manifest their innate ability around eighty years old. Humans can and do manifest innates, though with much less likelihood and much less strength. Humans bestowed an innate will begin showing signs of manifestation around twenty years old.

The most common innates are elemental based (e.g., fire, water, ice, wind) comprising a large majority of those with an innate.

  • The ability to speak with all animals.

A common innate among forest fae, now largely lost due to their extinction.

  • The ability to divine glimpses of potential futures. Often fractured and prone to change, clairvoyants are plagued with these visions.

Should this innate emerge, the wielder will spend the rest of their life struggling to keep themselves grounded in reality.

  • The ability to touch flora and encourage it to grow.

Particularly useful among farmers, the innate is considered rare among humans and fae. Conversely, the innate is common among sprites.

  • The ability to set another into a dream-filled sleep upon touch. The dream woven is determined by the mental state of the recipient, resulting unstable minds experiencing nightmares versus dreams.

A relatively uncommon innate, dreamweavers are typically drawn into the field of hospice care, providing pleasant dreams for those as they pass.

  • The ability to visit the dreams of any sleeping mind, animals and people alike. A practiced dreamwalker can learn to choose which dreams to visit as long as they’re in proximity to the dreamer.

Dreamwalkers are at high risk of losing themselves if they fail to practice control, leaving them locked in a dreamless slumber.

  • The ability to manipulate the emotions of a person or group of people. Emotion channels can cause smothering sorrow, blind rage, and everything between at whim.

Those with this innate must learn early how to control it, else risk a life of falsified relationships and friendships.

Due to the ease at which unintentional or malicious manipulation can occur, those with this innate are often culled.

  • The ability to decipher and read Nektos’ weaving of Fate. The wielder is cursed with the knowledge of how their life will end.

One of the rarest innate abilities with seven being recorded since the dawn of the realms.

  • Individuals capable of generating, controlling, and manipulating fire.

Those who have studied and learned how to wield their light can manifest it into weapons, shields, light sources, heat sources, and to precisely cauterize wounds.

  • The telltale innate of demons and those with a demonic pact. Contracted humans and fae can wield hellfire should their contract allow.

Capable of burning through nearly all material, crimson hellfire will reduce an object to ash in seconds.

  • Individuals capable of generating, controlling, and manipulating ice. People with the ice innate tend to be guarded, making them ideal for roles in the military, guard, or sectors of private protection.

Those who have studied and learned how to wield their light can manifest it into weapons, shields, armor, and use it to cool themselves and their surroundings.

  • Individuals capable of generating, controlling, and manipulating light.

Those who have studied and learned how to wield their light can manifest it into weapons, shields, light sources, heat sources, and illusions.

  • The ability to sense and detect magic in all forms—spelled items, wards, innate use, etc.

  • The ability to view memories through touch. Those with this innate commonly become scholars, recording the lived experiences of notable figures.

  • The ability to transform the wielder’s likeness into another’s through touch.

Those who manifest or display the mimic innate are culled upon discovery.

  • The ability to read the thoughts of another through eye contact.

  • The ability to speak directly into another’s mind.

Markedly different from the telepathic communication between a bonded pair, those with the oneiric voice innate cannot hear the thoughts or responses of their target.

  • Colloquially known as healers, regeneration innates are capable of healing wounds and injuries at a profound rate.

Whether due to the amount of stress placed upon a soul to wield such an innate or other factors, regeneration wielders rarely live longer than forty years (for humans), or two thousand years (for fae).

  • Individuals capable of generating, controlling, and manipulating shadow—also referred to as umbral energy.

Those who have studied and learned how to wield their ability can manifest it into weapons, shields, fog, and mirrors of themselves.

  • The ability to take form of any animal or beast at will. Those who take the time to learn their innate have demonstrated the ability to shapeshift into formidable creatures such as dragons, sea serpents, and hydra.

Blindness is highly common in those bestowed the shapeshifting innate.

  • The ability to temporarily steal an innate or absorb another facet of an individual.

    Examples of Siphoners include:
    Memory Siphoner
    Emotion Siphoner
    Innate Siphoner

  • The ability to view buried memories carried by a soul. These memories are often either repressed by the mind, or lost upon each lifecycle.

Due to many claiming to have the innate as a means to swindle money, the legitimacy of the innate is argued. If it does exist, it is one of the most rare.

  • Those with this innate can transform their skin into a stone-like state, making them near invulnerable for short periods of time. The ability to maintain longer periods is acquired with practice.

  • The ability to generate, manipulate, and control lightning, tempest winds, and blinding rain.

Unlike most other innates, this innate is largely destructive in nature. It takes a greater deal of practice and heightened attunement to wield it defensively.

  • The ability to unlock any physical lock, regardless of complexity.

  • The ability to detect spoken lies without fail. That being said, omission of context or details isn’t a lie, thus requiring truthtellers to ask specific questions.

  • The ability to generate, control, and manipulate water.

Prized in arid regions, water wielders are leaders in the practice of terraforming. Eldoterran humans with the water innate shaped once inhabitable lands as they fled west to escape fae dominion.

  • The ability to generate, control, and manipulate wind. Those who master their innate are capable of manifesting cyclones, tornadoes, and whip up hurricanes and sandstorms.

When dragons walked the living realm, many dragon riders were wind wielders.
